ZionGearBuilder.com ("we", "us", "the site") is a gear recommendation site for visitors to Zion National Park. This policy explains how information is handled here.
The Gear Builder, Backpack Fitter and other tools. Your answers are processed entirely in your own browser to generate a recommendation. They are not transmitted to us, not stored on a server, and disappear when you close the page.
The contact form. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive whatever you put in it — typically your name, email address and message. We use that only to reply. We don't add you to a mailing list and we don't share it.
Server logs. This site is hosted on Netlify. Like essentially all web hosts, Netlify records standard technical request data such as IP address, browser type, referring page and time of request. This is used for security and reliability. See Netlify's own privacy documentation for details of their handling.
Analytics. If and when we add site analytics, this policy will be updated to name the provider before it goes live.
This site earns commission through affiliate programs. When you click a product link here and go to a retailer such as Amazon, that retailer may place a cookie in your browser so any resulting purchase is credited to us. That cookie is set by the retailer, not by us, and is governed by their privacy policy, not this one.
We do not see your order details, payment information or address. We see only aggregate commission reporting — that a qualifying purchase occurred, not who made it.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon's cookie duration and data practices are set by Amazon; you can review them in the Amazon Privacy Notice. The same applies to any other retailer or affiliate network we work with.
If you'd rather not participate, you can block or clear third-party cookies in your browser settings, or navigate to the retailer directly instead of using our links. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, or to opt out of its sale or sharing — including under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the GDPR. Since the only personal information we hold is what you send us directly, a request usually means asking us to delete an email exchange. Contact us and we'll handle it.
We link to retailers, the National Park Service, Recreation.gov and local outfitters. Once you leave this site, their policies govern. We're not responsible for the content or practices of sites we link to.
We'll update this page when our practices change, and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be noted here rather than made silently.
